Average gas price jumps 17 cents in two weeks

The average gas price has increased 17 cents during the past two weeks, as fast-rising crude oil prices pound consumers at the pumps nationwide.

The average price for regular unleaded reached a record $3.79 per gallon nationwide Sunday, with two metropolitan areas -- Chicago and New York's Long Island -- reporting $4-plus per gallon, according to the Lundberg survey released late Sunday.
